Another Aceh Food Galore!

Our first night, we went to this seafood restaurant near the ferry port. Massive choices of food, look at that lobster! Too bad we didn't come during lunch time, they offer 50% discount during lunch!

And we went to Canai Mamak, where they serve roti cane with fillings. Chocolate, cheese, even srikaya fillings!

Yes, there's wifi here. Who needs Starbucks in Aceh when you can get free wifi at a street-side coffee shop!

We had so much Aceh's fabulous traditional coffee I believe we almost overdosed on coffee. 

Can you guess what this awesome coloured drink is? Yep, dragon fruit juice!

The Food Experience of Aceh!

And so we begin the food adventures. Our only night in Sabang was spent with eating Mie Sedap.

While Mie Sedap tasted well.. just okay, the martabak telur is fantastic. It was a fried egg with roti cane dough thing INSIDE the egg. Plus the pickled red onion + chili, mmmm, heavenly!

Sumur Tiga Beach, Sabang

We spent less than 12 hours on Sabang. We got there at around 5 pm, then went back to Aceh the next morning at 8 am. Truly not enough time to explore this beautiful place. But never mind, we shall set feet here again!

And no, this picture wasn't taken at Sabang. We bought these sandal jepit when we spontaneously decided we were going to Sabang. Converse knock-offs never felt so good before, and we felt so awesome, hahahaha.

Anyway, back to Sabang. We found a hotel to stay at Sumur Tiga, and we spent the evening strolling down the shore.

Off To Sabang!

Right after the Baiturrahman visit, we went to the ferry terminal, to the ferry boat waiting to take us to Sabang islang!

The sky was slightly murky and cloudy, so these didn't make the greatest landscape photos ever, but look at the green land!

Aceh Tsunami Museum and Baiturrahman Grand Mosque

In our short trip to Banda Aceh we made time to visit the Aceh Tsunami Museum and the great Baiturrahman Grand Mosque.

Walking inside the tsunami museum was an unforgettable memory. There was a long, narrow, dark lane that you had to walk through, surrounded with high wall by your sides dripping with water. It gave quite a tensed feeling, as if you were trapped in water. Then you get to a circular room with names of tsunami victims all over the circular wall, a soft serenade of prayers playing over the speaker.

There were also several other things displayed in the museum: photo and video documentations (didn't see the video, we didn't have enough time and I wasn't sure I wanted to see it).

And then we rushed to Baiturrahman Grand Mosque. The sky was clear blue, and this great mosque is magnificent. It is very beautiful, but we only took photos from outside of the entrance gate since we weren't wearing any head covering, it was forbidden to enter the mosque without proper clothing. 

So unfortunately you only get to see a little bit of this mosque's divine beauty. :)

Aceh Part Two: Becak Motor Is The Way To Go!

This is what becak motor looks like from behind. It's a rather entertaining mean of transportation. Kind of similar to bajaj, minus the noise and the vibration. It is faster, and the view you get to see from your seat is the best thing about becak motor!

The cleanliness of the city is pretty admirable. They're doing a fine job at keeping the roads (and the water) very, very clean.
